Japan Foals Day-2: $1.87m King Kamehameha Colt
Riichi Kondo paid the Day-2 top price of ¥162 million (A$1.87m) for a colt from the 1st crop of 5YO Kingmambo stallion & 2004 Gr1 Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) winner King Kamehameha during yesterday's closing foal session of the 3-day (1 session of yearlings, followed by 2 sessions of foals) Japan Racing Horse Association's annual July Select Sale at Northern Horse Park on Hokkaido, reported bloodhorse.com. The colt (consigned by Northern Farm) is out of Gr3-winning Fire Maker mare Roza Robata. The excitement around the 1st crop of King Kamehameha followed the previous day's ¥600 million (A$7.006m) paid for one of his fillies (also consigned by Northern Farm): a world record for a foal or weanling sold at public auction.
