War Emblem Breeding Drama Continues
Also in Japan, multiple US Gr1-winning stallion War Emblem's "problems in the breeding shed have gotten worse," reported bloodhorse.com. "There will be no foals sired by 7YO champion War Emblem (by Our Emblem) born in 2007". The 2002 Gr1 Kentucky Derby & Gr1 Preakness Stakes winner has been reluctant to cover mares ever since he entered stud in 2003 at Shadai Stallion Station in Japan & Naohiro Goda of the Regent Company confirmed: "Shadai Stallion Station tried to show more than 100 mares to War Emblem this year, but he covered only 1 & that mare is not in foal." War Emblem had 4 foals in his 1st crop, more than 40 in his 2nd & only 2 in his 3rd (born in 2006). Shadai's Teruya Yoshida summed up: "This is not a good thing for us, but this happens in the horse business. We've tried many things. Sometimes they've worked, but this year, almost nothing. People in Japan were expecting very much of War Emblem: there is a very small chance that will happen, but we will keep trying." Yoshida also noted he would consider standing War Emblem at a US farm "with expertise in or willingness to handle problem stallions" & added: "Some farms have contacted us in that way."
