Cape Cross Adds UK Gr2

Monday, 17th July 2006

Also on the UK track, Darley shuttler Cape Cross (Green Desert-Park Appeal, by Ahonoora) added a juvenile group success when the colt Halicarnassus (Cape Cross-Launch Time, by Relaunch) scored a half-length victory in the £70,000 (A$168,000) Gr2 Superlative Stakes (7 furlongs) for 2YOs at Newmarket. Starting as a 33-1 outsider, Halicarnassus (ridden by Tony Culhane for trainer Mick Channon) "fought on tenaciously after being shuffled back in running" to defeat He's A Decoy (In The Wings-Allegheny River, by Lear Fan) & Admiralofthefleet (Danehill-Rafina, by Mr Prospector) reported thoroughbredinternet.com. Halicarnassus had finished in a dead-heat for 1st in a maiden race at Newmarket on June 24 on debut. The previous 2 winners of the Superlative Stakes (Dubawi & Horatio Nelson) both went on to score Gr1 victories.
