Our Falstaff Wins Gr1 Singapore Derby

Monday, 17th July 2006

In Singapore yesterday, boom Coolmore 9YO dual-Derby winning sire & former NZ Windsor Park shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) added a Gr1 triumph when Irish-bred gelding Our Falstaff (Montjeu-Dance Of Love, by Pursuit Of Love) scored a 2.25-lengths victory in the S$1 million (A$800,000) Gr1 Singapore Derby (2000m on turf) for 4YOs (also 3rd leg of the 2006 Singapore 4YO Challenge) at Kranji. Despite starting from the extreme outside gate 16 & not starting for 9 weeks (he was gelded only 6 weeks ago), Our Falstaff (ridden by Robbie Fradd for trainer Patrick Shaw) defeated Singapore's 2005 Horse-Of-The-Year Big Easy (Spinning World-Nicole's Niner, by Forty Niner) & the winner's Brazilian-bred dual Gr1-winning stable-mate Setembro Chove (Fast Gold-Setting Trends, by Knifebox). Earlier this year, Our Falstaff finished 3rd behind top Japanese galloper Heart's Cry in the Gr1 Dubai Sheema Classic (2400m on turf) at Nad Al Sheba on the Dubai World Cup program in March.
