Geary Buys Ellis Park From Churchill

Wednesday, 19th July 2006

Kentucky businessman & thoroughbred owner Ron Geary purchased Ellis Park from Churchill Downs for an undisclosed price, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Churchill purchased Ellis in 1998 for US$22 million but announced in 2003 "it was losing money on Ellis & planned to sell the track". Geary commented: "I am excited to take the reins at Ellis Park at a pivotal time in the track's 85-year history. The track has faced its share of challenges to be sure, including last year's tornado that almost leveled the facility. But today, a rebuilt & rejuvenated Ellis Park is focused on the future & ready to welcome horsemen & race fans back for another season of live racing."
