Kentucky Yearlings Day-2: US$760k Pulpit Colt
California-based Scott Guenther's Desperado Stable out-bid Richard O'Gorman (representing Sheikh Mohammed's Darley operation) & paid top price of US$760,000 for a Pulpit colt (the 1st foal out of unraced 6YO Arch mare Mayhavebeentheone) during this morning's (Australian time) final session at the 2-day Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Select Yearling Sale at Newton Paddocks in Lexington, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. The colt was consigned by John Mayer's Nursery Place (which bred him in partnership with Robert Manfuso) & his dam Mayhavebeentheone is a half-sister to Gr3 winner & Kentucky sire Wiseman's Ferry. Guenther (who retired from the carpet business 5 years ago & has about 40 horses in training in California, Kentucky & New York including 2003 Gr1 Santa Anita Derby winner Buddy Gil) commented: "I just thought he was the best colt in the sale. I thought he would be somewhere between US$500,000-US$1 million. I'm happy with this price. He'll stay in Kentucky for a while & wind down from the sale; then we'll make some decisions about which trainer he will go to."
