Takeover Target Aims At Japan

Wednesday, 19th July 2006

While the European leg of Takeover Target's "world odyssey is over, Japan is next on the agenda for the rags-to-riches Australian sprinter," reported The Australian newspaper. Owner-trainer Joe Janiak confirmed "the 2nd phase of his plan is an all-out attack on the Global Sprint series which carries a $1.3 million bonus". Janiak had considered the possibility of Takeover Target running in the UK Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes (5 furlongs) at York  on August 24, but explained: "The travelling & quarantine requirements are a bit too tight for the Japan program, so we're forgetting York & will get him ready for Japan".  Takeover Target will contest Japan's Centaur Stakes (1200m) on September 10 & then Sprinters Stakes (1200m) on October 1; from there, the final leg of the 2006 Global Sprint series is the Hong Kong International Sprint (1000m) at Sha Tin in December.
