US authorities "have arrested an internet gaming company executive, causing value on gaming stocks offered in the UK to tumble US$1.1-billion," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. The US "is charging the internet gaming company BETonSPORTS with criminal racketeering, conspiracy & tax evasion"; the company "was among 11 individuals (including chief executive David Carruthers) & 4 corporations indicted". The charges stem from alleged violations of the US Interstate Wire Act & follow last week's approval by the US House Of Representatives of legislation (with a specific exception for horse racing) "that will further crack down on on-line gambling". Carruthers had led opposition to the Bill.
