Blue Diamond Attracts 1,449 Nominations
The Melbourne Racing Club's flagship 2YO Gr1 sprint event the $1,015,000 Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) to be run on February 24 next year, has attracted 1,449 nominations (733 colts & geldings and 716 fillies). Coolmore's Encosta de Lago (88 nominations) has the most progeny entered amongst the sires, followed by Choisir and General Nediym (both 43) and Arrowfield Stud's Redoute's Choice (41), whose progeny have dominated the last two runnings of the feature race. The stables of David Hayes (120 nominations), John Hawkes (110), Lee Freedman (84) and Aquanita Racing P/L (54) head the list of most prolific nominators for the event. First acceptances ($220) for the 2007 Blue Diamond Stakes close at noon on Tuesday, November 28. The first late nomination stage ($5,500) for horses not originally entered, also closes at that same time.
