Former Arrowfield Stud & Chatswood Stud stallion Baryshnikov (Kenmare-Lady Giselle, by Nureyev) added a black-type success when 6YO gelding Smart And Mighty (Baryshnikov-Billie's Flurry, by Pag-asa) prevailed in a 3-way photo-finish to the $75,000 Listed Tattersall's Mile (1600m) at Eagle Farm in Brisbane. Smart And Mighty (ridden by Jim Byrne for trainer Tony Noonan) won by a long-head from favoured fellow 6YO gelding Mitanni (Danewin-And A Hug, by Ivor Prince) with a further short-head to 9YO gelding Consular (Royal Academy-Miss Prospect, by Rory's Jester). Smart And Mighty (a $6,500 yearling at the 2001 Inglis Autumn Sale) now has 11 wins (also including last month's Listed Marco Polo Handicap over 1600m at Eagle Farm) & 11 placings (including the Gr3 R.A.Lee Stakes over 1600m at Morphettville in May) from 38 starts for $363,375 prize-money.
