Sunline's Trainer Trevor McKee Retires

Leading Kiwi trainer Trevor McKee "has announced his retirement & will hand over the reins to his son Stephen," reported thoroughbrednews.co.nz. McKee, 68, "will not renew his licence for the new season (which begins on August 1) after a lifetime training winners & trading horses". Champion mare Sunline "put McKee and his co-trainer son Stephen on the international stage racing in Australia, Hong Kong & Dubai"; she retired in 2002 with 32 wins including 2 Gr1 Cox Plates in Melbourne & 2 Gr1 Doncaster Handicaps in Sydney) from 48 starts for A$11,351,607 prize-money (at the time a record for a horse trained in Australasia & since eclipsed only by triple Gr1 Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva).
