Major Training Complex Approved At Arrowfield

Thursday, 27th July 2006

Trainer Paul Messara confirmed 186 acres of new land adjacent to Arrowfield Stud (10km east of Scone in the NSW Hunter Valley) is being developed into a world class training facility (to rival those of David Hayes in South Australia & Lee Freedman in Victoria). The last hurdle was cleared when the development application passed local council on Monday. Messara enthused: "It's very exciting! The 1st clod will be turned this week & we're installing a fully synthetic all-weather Viscoride track, similar to the one at Canberra racecourse." With a 2100m-circumference, the track won't require watering & is designed to minimise injuries to horses; the facility (which will comprise about 40 boxes) will also include horse-walkers & timing facilities for accurately recording sectional times. Messara will continue to train for private clients, in addition to some of the horses retained by Arrowfield & its clients.
