Swamp Fever Outbreak In Ireland

Thursday, 27th July 2006

In Ireland, 9 horses have tested positive for EIA (Swamp Fever) "a potentially fatal disease which has forced the closure of leading veterinary practice Troytown in County Kildare, " reported thoroughbredinternet.com. An infected horse "was brought to the surgery in the middle of the night on June 12 & had to be put down; it was subsequently found to be carrying the disease, which could have stemmed from infected blood serum. All 9 current cases are thought to be linked to this original carrier."
