1st Foal For Al Maher

Friday, 28th July 2006

Meanwhile Hunter Valley-based Ashleigh Thoroughbreds announced the arrival yesterday of a filly "believed to be the very 1st foal sired by Emirates Park stallion Al Maher (Danehill-Show Dancing, by Don't Say Halo) winner of the 2005 Gr1 VRC Australian Guineas," reported racenet.com.au. Ashleigh's Senga Bissett said the filly is the 2nd foal from the young mare Isadora (a winning half-sister by Gold Fever to Gr2 winner Apollo Wonder from the family of Gr1 winners Paint, Akhenaton & Mr Bureaucrat). And Bissett noted: "Isadora's 1st foal is a lovely filly by Redoute's Choice that will be going to the sales next year." Al Maher (a 3/4 brother-in-blood to champion Arrowfield Stud sire Redoute's Choice) covered 180 mares in his initial season for Emirates Park & will stand the 2006 season at $44,000. Meanwhile Ashleigh Thoroughbreds (a boutique breeding operation run by Senga Bissett & Ivan Woodford-Smith) is also home to the dams of Gr1 winners Danni Martine & Fionnay, as well as Danni Martine herself. Ashleigh "is 1 of 3 studs (also Byerley Stud & Riversdale Farm) that trade under the banner of Southern Cross Breeders".
