York Appointed Emirates Park Racing Manager
Former jockey Brian York "has been appointed racing manager for the Emirates Park group" (owned by His Excellency Nasser Abdullah Hussain Lootah of Dubai) reported The Sydney Morning Herald. York confirmed: "I received a phone call from Dubai asking me if I was interested in the role. At first I thought it was a joke, but when I realised it was the real thing I told the Emirates representative I was very interested." York will work with Emirates Park's chosen trainers (including Gai Waterhouse & Graeme Rogerson in Sydney, & Rick Hore-Lacy, Peter Moody & David Brideoake in Melbourne): "I will be commuting regularly to Emirates Stud in the Hunter Valley as well as their Victorian base, updating the breaking-in of their yearlings & when they are ready to go to their respective trainers. I have been out of racing since November 2002, when I suffered the race-fall which ended my career as a jockey & this new career move is a most exciting one." York noted he had been "at Randwick last week inspecting the $2.2 million sister to Emirates' Gr1-winning mare Shamekha" & considered her "an outstanding individual which had done everything right in her early education with the Waterhouse stable".
