Hurricane Run Wins UK Gr1 King George

Monday, 31st July 2006

Coolmore dual-Derby winning sire & former NZ Windsor Park shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) added a Gr1 triumph when the last season's French Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner & currently equal-highest ranked international racehorse Hurricane Run (Montjeu-Hold On, by Surumu) "came from well back & off the fence to launch a sustained burst of speed" & score a half-length victory as odds-on favourite in England's prestigious £740,000 (A$1.775m) Gr1 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes (12 furlongs) at Ascot, reported thoroughbredinternet.com. Michael Tabor's 4YO entire Hurricane Run (ridden by Christophe Soumillon for trainer Andre Fabre) defeated Godolphin's Gr1 Dubai World Cup winner Electrocutionist (Red Ransom-Elbaaha, by Arazi) & Japanese 2005 champion older horse Heart's Cry (Sunday Silence-Irish Dance, by Tony Bin). In his 2 previous starts this year Hurricane Run won the Irish Gr1 Tattersalls Gold Cup (10.5 furlongs) by 7-lengths at The Curragh on May 28 & then finished runner-up (only his 2nd defeat in 9 starts) when racing left-handed for the 1st time in the French Gr1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (2400m) on June 25; overall he now has 8 wins (also including last year's Gr1 Irish Derby) from 10 starts.
