Bernardini (A.P.Indy-Cara Rafaela, by Quiet American) notched 6 consecutive US victories as a 3YO during 2006, including the G1 Preakness Stakes (middle leg of America's 3YO Triple Crown by 5.5-lengths), Gr1 Travers Stakes & Gr1 G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup (against older horses); only 2 other giants of US racing (Damascus & Man O'War) had the talent & constitution to win these races in the same season. Bernardini was duly crowned World Champion 3YO & Eclipse Champion 3YO of 2006 & retired to stud this year at Darley Kentucky as the highest-priced US freshman sire at US$100,000 (with a 1st book including more than 60 Gr1-winners or producers). Overall Bernardini retired with 6 wins (also including the Gr2 Jim Dandy Stakes & Gr3 Withers Stakes, plus runner-up in November's Gr1 Breeders' Cup Classic against older horses) from 8 starts for US$3,060,480 earnings.
