Thursday, 1st March 2007

Fellow US shuttler Henny Hughes (Hennessy-Meadow Flyer, by Meadowlake) was named World Champion sprinter of 2006 & is currently standing his initial Northern Hemisphere season for Darley in Kentucky at US$40,000. As a 2YO Henny Hughes won his initial 3 starts (including both the Gr2 Saratoga Special & Gr3 Jersey Shore) before finishing runner-up in 3 of America's best juvenile Gr1 races (including the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile). Last year Henny Hughes became the 1st 3YO to win both the Gr1 King's Bishop Strakes (7 furlongs) & Gr1 G1 Vosburgh Stakes (6 furlongs) double; he took the Gr1 King's Bishop (America's top sprint for 3YOs, previously won by More Than Ready, Tale Of The Cat & Forestry) by 5.25-lengths in fast time & his dominant performance in the Gr1 Vosburgh earned an International Classification mark equal to Takeover Target & unmatched by any other 3YO sprinter in the world. Overall Henny Hughes retires with 6 wins & 3 runner-ups from 10 starts for US$1,124,820 earnings.
