Aqua D'Amore Wins Gr1 Futurity Stakes

Monday, 5th March 2007

Former Coolmore shuttler & ill-fated multiple champion sire Danehill (Danzig-Razyana, by His Majesty) added a Gr1 triumph when front-running 5YO mare Aqua D'Amore (Danehill-Romantic River, by Irish River) scored a 1.25-lengths victory in the $700,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Futurity Stakes (1600m) at Caulfield in Melbourne. Aqua D'Amore (ridden by Steven Baster for trainer Gai Waterhouse) defeated 4YO Kiwi mare Seachange (Cape Cross-Just Cruising, by Broad Reach) & favoured multiple Gr1-winning 5YO gelding El Segundo (Pins-Palos Verdes, by Oak Ridge). Aqua D'Amore (a $350,000 yearling at the 2003 Inglis Easter Sale) took her record to 9 wins (also including the Gr2 Villiers Stakes over 1600m, Gr3 Summer Cup over 2400m & Gr3 Eclipse Stakes over 2100m) & 11 placings (including her last 2 starts in the Gr2 St George Stakes over 1800m on February 24 & Gr1 Orr Stakes over 1400m on February 10, plus the Gr1 Caulfield Cup over 2400m, Gr1 Mackinnon Stakes over 2000m, Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 2000m, Gr1 Turnbull Stakes over 2000m, Gr2 Chelmsford Stakes over 1550m, Gr2 Hilton International Stakes over 2000m & Listed Thai Airways International Classic over 1200m) from 32 starts for $1,780,600 earnings.
