He's No Pie Eater Wins Gr1 Chipping Norton

Monday, 5th March 2007

Woodlands Stud sire Canny Lad (Bletchingly-Jesmond Lass, by Lunchtime) added a Gr1 triumph when 3YO colt He's No Pie Eater (Canny Lad-Ladies Day, by Ascot Knight) returned from an 18-weeks spell to cause a boil-over by defeating the older horses in the $300,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm in Sydney. Starting at 80-1, He's No Pie Eater (ridden by Zac Purton for trainer Graeme Rogerson) scored by a short-neck from 4-time Gr1-winning favoured 6YO gelding Desert War (Desert King-High Heels, by Canny Lad) with a further nose to Gr1-winning 3YO gelding Mentality (Flying Spur-Synaesthesia, by Quiet American). He's No Pie Eater (a $140,000 yearling at the 2005 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale) now has 4 wins & 5 placings (including the Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes over 2000m & Listed Run To The Rose over 1300m) from 14 starts for $336,600 earnings.
