Princess Coup Wins Lowland Stakes

Monday, 5th March 2007

Coolmore stallion Encosta de Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek by Star Way) added a group success when Australian-bred daughter Princess Coup (Encosta De Lago-Stoneyfell Road, by Sovereign Red) scored a 1.5-lengths victory in the NZ$70,000 Gr3 Lowland Stakes (2100m) for 3YOs fillies at Trentham. Princess Coup (ridden by Chris Johnson for trainer Mark Walker) defeated Castlebar (Volksraad-Search, by Star Way) & the winner's stable-mate Soelin (Stravinsky-Solano, by Red Glow). Princess Coup (a $260,000 yearling at the 2005 Magic Millions Winter Sale on the Gold Coast) took her record to 7 wins (also including January's Gr3 NZ Bloodstock Desert Gold Stakes over 1600m at Trentham, plus 2006's Listed Slade Farm Canterbury Stakes over 1600m & Listed Ray Coupland Stakes over 1400m) & 4 placings (including last start's Gr2 Cambridge Stud Sir Tristram Classic over 2000m at Te Rapa on February 10, plus the Gr1 NZ 2000 Guineas over 1600m, Gr1 NZ Bloodstock 1000 Guineas over 1600m & Gr2 Eight Carat Classic over 1600m) from 15 starts. The win also took Princess Coup further ahead at the top of the 2007 NZ Bloodstock Filly-Of-The-Year series (with only the Gr1 NZ Oaks at Trentham on March 17 remaining).
