Monday, 5th March 2007

Paul Makin's former Luca Cumani-trained UK 6YO gelded stayer Soulacroix (6th in November's Gr3 Saab Quality Handicap at Flemington before taking a 15-weeks spell) made it 2 successive victories since his return to the track with a 2.25-lengths win in the $100,000 Listed D'Urban Victoria Gold Cup (2000m) at Caulfield. Soulacroix (Kylian-California Dreamin by Slip Anchor) was ridden by Corey Brown for trainer Lee Freedman to defeat fellow 6YO gelding Forest Knight (Charnwood Forest-Supergene, by Twig Moss) & 7YO gelding Gallic (Zabeel-Gesine, by Nassipour). Soulacroix (who also scored 1st-up over 1600m at Moonee Valley on February 17) now has 7 wins & 8 placings from 23 starts for $277,613 earnings; he is being aimed towards this month's Gr1 BMW (2400m) at Rosehill Gardens & April's Gr1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Royal Randwick.
