Star NZ Sprinter Solvini Sold To Freedman Stable

Tuesday, 6th March 2007

Dual Gr3-wining NZ 3YO filly Solvini (Bertolini-Paris Sky, by Paris House) "has been sold for a substantial 6-figure sum to Australian interests & will do her future racing from the top Melbourne stable of Lee Freedman," reported NZ Thoroughbred Marketing. The new owner of Soliloquy Lodge-bred Solvini "is Melbourne-based Sean Buckley, who also owns champion Australian sprinter Miss Andretti" (winner of 3 Gr1 races in Melbourne this season). At her most recent start on February 18, Solvini set a new course record on the Pukekura track at New Plymouth in Taranaki when she recorded 1min 1.78sec for 1100m to win the Schweppervescence Dash; she also holds the 1200m New Plymouth record for 2YOs (set when she won last year's Gr3 Taranaki Classic). Overall Solvini (a NZ$20,000 yearling at the 2005 NZB Select Sale at Karaka) has 5 wins (also including October's Gr3 Lion Red Plate over 1200m at Arawa Park) & 2 placings (including last season's Listed Fairview Ford Stakes) from 14 starts. Solvini follows other top NZ gallopers Sphenophyta (Groom Dancer-Ballermoss, by Lord Ballina), King Of Ashford (His Royal Highness-Zena's Wish, by Super Gray) & Post Thyme (Postponed-Cardamom, by Volksraad) who have all joined the Freedman stable in the past 12 months: both Sphenophyta & King Of Ashford have gone on to win in Australia, while Post Thyme will remain in the care of NZ trainer Leanne Bertling until after she contests the NZ$300,000 Gr1 NZ Oaks (2400m) on March 17.
