Florida 2YOs: US$2.5m Storm Cat Colt
Irish agent Demi O'Byrne (buying on behalf of Coolmore) paid US$2.5 million for a Storm Cat colt (out of 8YO stakes-placed Mr Prospector mare Moon Safari) during early action this morning (Australian time) at the Fasig-Tipton Florida sale of Selected 2YOs-In-Training at Calder racetrack in Miami. The colt was consigned by pin-hooker Hoby Kight, who ironically bought him for just US$1 million at the 2006 Keeneland September yearling sale from the Coolmore draft. O'Byrne told thoroughbredtimes.com: "We did breed him, so I don't know whether we made a mistake then or we made a mistake here. Horses change. He was probably just going through a phase then, because I couldn't be happier to have him now after the way he breezed here." The colt (whose dam Moon Safari is a full sister to Gr1-winner Scan & is also from the family of European champion Caerleon & Gr1-winner Vision) ran 2 furlongs in 21.4sec (into a head-wind) during the pre-sale breeze-up session.
