Florida 2YOs: Average Down 12.9%

Thursday, 8th March 2007

The 1-day Fasig-Tipton Florida sale of Selected 2YOs-In-Training at Calder racetrack in Miami saw 124 lots sold for US$43,622,000 (down 29.9% on last year's 154 sold for US$62,187,000 which included the world-record US$16 million colt The Green Monkey). The US$351,790 average was down 12.9% (last year US$403,812) but the US$250,000 median was up 25% (last year US$200,000). Fasig-Tipton president Walt Robertson told thoroughbredtimes.com: "We sold 150 horses here last year & 1 of them brought US$16 million. Do the math: that adds about US$100,000 to the average, so we knew we weren't going to have a US$400,000 average."
