Prize Lady Wins NZ Gr1 Auckland Cup

Thursday, 8th March 2007

In New Zealand yesterday, former Fayette Park shuttler Prized (Kris S-My Turbulent Miss, by My Dad George) added a Gr1 triumph when 5YO mare Prize Lady (Prized-Pen Bal Lady, by Mummy's Game) scored a 0.75-lengths victory in the NZ$700,000 Gr1 Auckland Cup (3200m) at Ellerslie. Despite being drawn in barrier 18, Prized (ridden by Mark Du Plessis for trainers Graeme Sanders & Debbie Sweeney) finished powerfully in the straight to defeat favoured 5YO gelding Pentane (Pentire-Tuff One, by Prince Raider) who won this race last year & fellow 5YO gelding Luckshan (Spectacular Love-Norfolk Shan, by Norfolk Air). Prize Lady (a NZ$13,500 yearling at the 2003 NZ Bloodstock Select Fillies Sale) took her record to 3 wins & 7 placings (including runner-up in the Gr1 NZ Oaks) from 17 starts.
