Goffs 2YOs: $216k Xaar Colt

Monday, 12th March 2007

John Ferguson (principal bloodstock agent for Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum's Darley operation & bidding via Goffs chairman Eimear Mulhern) also out-bid agent Bobby O'Ryan & paid £90,000 (A$216,000) for a colt by Xaar (out of Lucky Guest mare Lucky Bet) consigned from County Meath-based Oak Tree Farm. Ferguson told racingpost.co.uk: "I was keen to come to the sale & support this new initiative & was delighted to see the horses breeze so well. The Xaar colt acquitted himself very well in the morning & then when I saw him afterwards I thought he was a ready-made juvenile type. He'll hopefully be a nice early season 2YO for Sheikh Mohammed, but I haven't discussed who will train him." Ferguson also noted Polytrack breeze-ups have a big future: "It's worth bearing in mind that 2YO sales need to appeal to an international market & I believe in the next 3 years every major racecourse in America will have a synthetic surface. So if we can appeal to American buyers, it can only be good for our bloodstock market. It doesn't put anyone off the turf of course & it's great that Goffs has taken this initiative."
