Hennessy Adds US Gr3

Monday, 12th March 2007

Former Coolmore shuttler Hennessy (Storm Cat-Island Kitty, by Hawaii) added a US group success when 4YO daughter India (Hennessy-Misty Hour, by Miswaki) scored by a head in the US$175,000 Gr3 Azeri Breeders' Cup Stakes (8.5 furlongs) for mares 4YO & up at Oaklawn Park. India (ridden by Chris DeCarlo for trainer Todd Pletcher) defeated fast-finishing Kettleoneup (Victory Gallop-Bugs Rabbit, by Storm Cat) & A True Pussycat (Yes It's True-Cool Pussycat, by Tabasco Cat). Kentucky-bred India was originally purchased by Peachtree Stable owner John Fort for US$400,000 at the 2004 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale; after she broke her maiden by 12-lengths in her 2nd career start over 5.5 furlongs at Saratoga in July 2005, Fort sold India to breeders Frank & Jane Lyon (owners of Summer Wind Farm in Kentucky) for US$2.05 million. This was her 3rd consecutive stakes-win: she was returning from a 4 months spell following victory in October's Gr2 Cotillion Breeders' Cup Handicap (8.5 furlongs) at Philadelphia Park & September's Listed Without Feathers Stakes (8 furlongs) at Monmouth Park. Overall she now has 5 wins from 11 starts for US$557,859 earnings.
