Karaka Carnival Yearlings: $25k Average

Monday, 12th March 2007

Overall at the inaugural NZ Bloodstock Carnival sale, 156 yearlings sold for NZ$3,909,250 at an average NZ$25,059 & a median NZ$20,000. Marketing Manager Petrea Vela summed up: "As a sales opportunity, this was pitched at the Select-Festival Sale quality yearling that might benefit from the extra few weeks in the paddock or might particularly appeal to the buying bench we would attract at this sale. I think the results have met that expectation & in many cases exceeded it, with the average price holding up well compared with the Select & Festival Sales & a number of the top quality lots selling extremely well. This Sale was always going to be a good test of how robust our domestic market in fact is & it has held up well. It can take a while for both buyers & vendors to have confidence in any new initiative; but overall we are pleased with the results & are certain that, with good support next year, this can be a solid foundation for us to build on."
