Karaka Yearlings: NZ$120k Invincible Spirit Colt

Monday, 12th March 2007

David Ellis paid top price of NZ$120,000 for a colt by European 1st-season sire sensation & Chatswood Stud shuttler Invincible Spirit (the 2nd foal out of winning Australian-bred Bellotto mare Muffin McLay) at the inaugural 1-day NZ Bloodstock Carnival Yearling Sale at Karaka in Auckland. The colt was consigned by Esker lodge as agent & Ellis commented: "This is a beautiful colt that we have bought to target the Karaka Million at Ellerslie. We probably paid a bit more than we intended, but it's not unusual to have to pay overs to secure good colts & we are very happy to add him to our stable. I am surprised by how strong the sale has been, with good types demanding extremely good prices. I have seen buyers here from all over the country, which is a credit to the NZ Bloodstock team & also an indicator of the revival our industry is experiencing thanks in large part to (NZ Racing Minister) Winston Peter's tax changes. I think this Sale is definitely one to be repeated: it fits in well with Auckland Cup week & helps us greatly in our mission to try & get more racing enthusiasts out bidding & buying at Karaka."
