Murtajill Wins Skyline Stakes

Monday, 12th March 2007

Coolmore shuttler Rock Of Gibraltar (Danehill-Offshore Boom, by Be My Guest) added a juvenile group success when record-priced colt Murtajill (Rock Of Gibraltar-Skating, by At Talaq) scored a 3-lengths victory (& set a new race record 1min 9.63sec) in the $100,000 Gr3 Skyline Stakes (1200m) for 2YO colts & geldings at Randwick. Murtajill (ridden by Jim Cassidy for trainer Tim Martin) defeated Husson Lightning (Hussonet-Snip Snip, by Snippets) & Pistols (Dehere-Duelling Girl, by Dayjur). Murtajill was the highest-priced weanling ever sold in Australasia when Tim Stakemire (Australian agent for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum) paid $660,000 at the 2005 Magic Millions June National Weanling Sale on the Gold Coast. He now has 2 wins (also including a race record in September's Listed Breeders Plate over 1000m at Randwick on debut) & a placing (last start on February 24 when returning from a 21-weeks spell in the Gr2 International Animal Health Silver Slipper Stakes over 1100m at Rosehill) from 3 starts for $130,200 earnings.
