Monday, 12th March 2007

Former Chatswood Stud shuttler Genuine (Sunday Silence-Croupier Lady, by What Luck) added a Gr1 triumph when 4YO gelding Pompeii Ruler (Genuine-West With Night, by Pompeii Court) raced clear at the top of the straight & scored a 1.25-lengths victory in the $1 million weight-for-age Gr1 Darley Australian Cup (2000m) at Caulfield in Melbourne. Pompeii Ruler (ridden by Craig Newitt for trainer Mick Price) defeated fellow 4YO gelding Marasco (Scenic-Bluegrass Belle, by Is It True) & fast-finishing dual Gr1-winning 5YO entire Tawqeet (Kingmambo-Caerless, by Caerleon). Pompeii Ruler (passed-in for just $9,000 as a yearling at the 2004 Inglis Autumn Sale in Melbourne) now boasts 7 wins (also including last start's Gr2 St George Stakes over 1800m at Caulfield on February 24, plus 2006's Gr2 Craiglee Stakes over 1600m & Gr2 Liston Stakes over 1400m) & 3 placings (including 2006's Gr1 Cox Plate over 2040m & Gr1 Yalumba Stakes over 2000m) from 12 starts for $1,575,900 earnings.
