Gallic Wins Adelaide Cup

Tuesday, 13th March 2007

NZ Cambridge Stud's multiple champion sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram-Lady Giselle, by Nureyev) added another major group staying success when favoured 7YO gelding Gallic (Zabeel-Gesine, by Nassipour) scored by a half-head (& then survived a protest) in yesterday's $400,000 Gr2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) at Morphettville in South Australia. Top-weighted Gallic (ridden by Stephen Arnold for trainer Graeme Rogerson) defeated 4YO mare Lacey Underall (Desert Sun-Flirty Ferdy, by Ferdinand) & fellow 7YO gelding Exalted Time (Bellotto-Alleged Lady, by Delgado) who won this race last year. Gallic (a NZ$170,000 yearling at the 2001 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka) now has 6 wins (also including November's Listed Bendigo Cup over 2400m) & 10 placings (including last start's Listed D'Urban Victoria Gold Cup over 2000m at Caulfield on March 3 & January's Listed Bagot Handicap over 2400m at Caulfield, plus the Gr2 Moonee Valley Cup) from 21 starts for $656,550 earnings.
