Rags To Riches Wins US Gr1 Santa Anita Oaks

Tuesday, 13th March 2007

In the US, Derrick Smith & Michael Tabor's Rags To Riches (A.P.Indy-Better Than Honour, by Deputy Minister) "continued her ascent to top of the 3YO filly ranks as she notched her 2nd straight Gr1 win with a dominating 5.5-lengths victory" in the US$300,000 Gr1 Santa Anita Oaks (8.5 furlongs) for 3YO fillies at Santa Anita Park in California, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Hot favourite Rags To Riches (ridden by Garrett Gomez for trainer Todd Pletcher) defeated Silver Swallow (Alphabet Soup-Topsom, by Red Ransom) & Gr1-winner Cash Included (Include-Henderson Band, by Chimes Band). Tabor & Smith purchased the Kentucky-bred filly (a half-sister to 2006 Gr1 Belmont Stakes winner Jazil) as a yearling for US$1.9 million at the Keeneland September yearling sale; she now boasts 3 wins from 4 races (also including last start's Gr1 Las Virgenes Stakes over 8 furlongs at Santa Anita on February 10) for US$360,100 earnings.
