Desert War Wins Gr1 Ranvet Stakes

Lynden Park shuttler Desert King (Danehill-Sabaah, by Nureyev) added a Gr1 triumph when Gooree Stud's multiple Gr1-winning 6YO home-bred gelding Desert War (Desert King-High Heels, by Canny Lad) scored a front-running 1.5-lengths victory in the $400,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill. Hot favourite Desert War (ridden by Hugh Bowman for trainer Gai Waterhouse) defeated fellow 6YO gelding Confectioner (Bubble Gum Fellow-Princess Blue, by Our Poetic Prince) & 5YO gelding Railings (Zabeel-La Suffragette, by Palace Music). Desert War now has 11 wins (also including last month's Gr2 Apollo Stakes over 1400m at Rosehill Gardens, plus 2006's Gr1 Mackinnon Stakes over 2000m & Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes over 1600m, plus both the 2004 & 2005 Gr1 Epsom Handicaps over 1600m & both the 2005 & 2006 Gr2 Hill Stakes over 1900m) & 9 placings (including last start's Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes over 1600m at Warwick Farm on March 3, plus 2006's Gr1 Epsom Handicap over 1600m, Gr1 George Main Stakes over 1600m, Gr1 Ranvet Stakes over 2000m, Gr2 Warwick Stakes over 1400m & Gr2 Apollo Stakes over 1400m) from 36 starts for $2,471,510 earnings.
