Malcolm Wins Canterbury Stakes

Monday, 19th March 2007

Ill-fated Arrowfield Stud sire Snippets (Lunchtime-Easy Date, by Grand Chaudiere) added a group success when favoured 5YO gelding Malcolm (Snippets-Finneto, by Cerreto) scored by a long-neck in the $140,000 weight-for-age Gr2 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill. Malcolm (ridden by Darren Beadman for trainer John Hawkes) defeated 3YO filly Cheeky Choice (Redoute's Choice-Christchurch, by Caerleon) & 5YO mare Kosi Bay (Spinning World-Calvinia, by Varick). Malcolm (a $155,000 yearling at the 2003 Inglis Easter Sale) now has 8 wins (also including November's Gr3 Helvetica Stakes over1400m, plus 2006's Gr2 Ajax Stakes over 1500m) & 7 placings (including 2006's Gr1 Epsom Handicap over 1600m & Gr3 Cameron Handicap over 1400m, plus 2005's Gr2 Villiers Stakes over 1600m) from 18 starts for $676,250 earnings.
