Meurice Wins Todman Stakes

Woodlands Stud stallion Strategic (Zeditave-Sudden Impulse, by Luskin Star) added a juvenile group success when the colt Meurice (Strategic-Espadon, by Danehill) returned from a 16-weeks spell & a stable switch) to gain the judge's verdict in a 3-way photo-finish to the $300,000 Gr2 Todman Stakes (1200m) for 2YO colts & geldings at Rosehill. Meurice (ridden by Hugh Bowman for trainer Gai Waterhouse) scored by a neck from stakes-winning fellow colt Zizou (Fusaichi Pegasus-Natural Is My Name, by Naturalism) with a further head to favoured Gr2-winning colt Shaft (Flying Spur-Traceable, by Rahy). Meurice took his record to 2 wins (also including October's Listed Debutants Stakes over 1000m at Caulfield) & 2 placings (in November's Gr3 Maribyrnong Plate over 1000m & Listed Merson Cooper Stakes over 1000m) from 4 starts for $302,700 earnings.
