Monday, 19th March 2007

Woodlands Stud sire Canny Lad (Bletchingly-Jesmond Lass, by Lunchtime) added a juvenile black-type success (& his 43rd individual stakes-winner) when debutante daughter Rio Osa (Canny Lad-Peach, by Vain) snatched victory by a short-head over the males in the $100,000 Listed Seppelt Wines Sprint (1000m) for 2YOs at Sandown. Rio Osa (ridden by Blake Shinn for trainer John Hawkes) defeated favoured fellow filly Downhill Racer (Danehill Dancer-Trick Ski, by Rory's Jester) & the gelding Tis Folly (Rory's Jester-Noveliste, by Runyon). Rio Osa earned $60,000 for her initial victory; she is a full-sister to Gr1 VRC Sires Produce Stakes winner Preserve.
