Tuesday Joy Wins Gr1 Coolmore Classic

Monday, 19th March 2007

Darley stallion Carnegie (Sadler's Wells-Detroit, by Riverman) added a Gr1 triumph when 3YO daughter Tuesday Joy (Carnegie-Joie Denise, by Danehill) came from the tail of the field with a powerful finish down the middle of the rain-affected track to score a 0.75-lengths victory over her older rivals in the $600,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) for fillies & mares at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney. Tuesday Joy (ridden by Darren Beadman for trainer Gai Waterhouse) defeated favoured 4YO mare Doubting (Redoute's Choice-Sovereign Ruby, by Sovereign Red) & fellow 4YO mare Divine Madonna (Hurricane Sky-My Madonna, by Prego). Tuesday Joy (a $1 million yearling at the 2005 Magic Millions Premier Sale on the Gold Coast) now has 2 wins (also including the Gr2 Wakeful Stakes over 2000m at Flemington in November) & 4 runner-ups (last start's Gr2 Surround Stakes over 1400m at Warwick Farm on March 3, plus 2006's Gr1 Victoria Oaks over 2500m, Gr3 Gloaming Stakes over 1800m & Gr3 Sweet Embrace Stakes over 1200m) from 10 starts for $835,250 earnings.
