Tuesday, 20th March 2007

In Japan, 2005 Gr1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) runner-up Eye Popper (Soccer Boy-Sunday I, by Sunday Silence) prevailed in a head-bobbing 4-way photo-finish to the ¥124.4 million (A$1.4m) Gr2 Hanshin Daishoten (3000m on turf) for 4YOs & up at Hanshin. Northern Farm-bred Eye Popper (ridden by Yutaka Take for trainer I.Shimizu) scored by a head from favourite Dream Passport (Fuji Kiseki-Grace Land, by Tony Bin) with a further neck to Tokai Trick (El Condor Pasa-Zoonaqua, by Silver Hawk) & another neck to 2006 Gr1 Melbourne Cup winner Delta Blues (Dance In The Dark-Dixie Splash, by Dixieland Band) in 4th place. This traditional stayers' feature was won last year by 7-time Gr1-winner & recently retired Japanese superstar Deep Impact. Meanwhile during 2006 Eye Popper also notched major staying runner-ups in both the Gr2 Copa Republica Argentina (2500m on turf) & Gr2 Meguro Kinen (2500m on turf) at Tokyo.
