California 2YOs: US$950k Johannesburg Colt

Thursday, 22nd March 2007

Egyptian brewing magnate Ahmed Zayat paid US$950,000 for a colt by Coolmore shuttler Johannesburg (out of Well Decorated mare Decadent Designer, a half-sister to Gr1-winner Bonapaw) also consigned by Brocklebank & Chipman's BC3 Thoroughbreds as agent. Zayat told thoroughbredtimes.com: "To be perfectly honest, I expected to have to pay somewhere between US$1.2 million-US1.5 million. He has a body like I've never seen & he's a total athlete, the way he breezes & everything". Brocklebank had paid US$525,000 for the colt (who worked 1 furlong in 9.8sec during the pre-sale breeze-ups) at the 2006 Keeneland September sale.
