Shadwell US Stallion Sahm Dies Aged 13
In Kentucky, US Gr2-winning 13-year-old sire Sahm (a stallion at Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum's Shadwell Farm) "died at Rood And Riddle Equine Hospital after a long illness in his intestinal tract," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Shadwell bred & raced Sahm (Mr Prospector-Salsabil, by Sadler's Wells) who won 5 of 11 starts (including the 1998 Gr2 Knickerbocker Handicap at Aqueduct, plus runner-up in the Gr2 Kelso Handicap at Belmont Park). At stud, Kentucky-bred Sahm (a half-brother to group stakes-winners Alabaq & Bint Salsabil) has sired 64 winners (6 stakes-winners) from 97 starters for US$3,829,457 progeny earnings; his leading runner Mustameet won 5 stakes for Sheikh Hamdan in 2006 (including the Irish Gr2 UAE Royal Whip Stakes at the Curragh). Sahm (whose dam Salsabil won the 1990 Gr1 Irish Derby, Gr1 English 1000 Guineas & Gr1 Epsom Oaks) covered 33 mares in 2006.
