Danehill Adds UK Gr3

Monday, 26th March 2007

Ill-fated Coolmore shuttler & multiple champion sire Danehill (Danzig-Razyana, by His Majesty) added a UK group success when 6YO entire Gentleman's Deal (Danehill-Sleepytime, by Royal Academy) "who combines racing with stallion duties, maintained his unbeaten run on all-weather tracks" (7 wins) with victory in a 3-way photo-finish to the £100,000 (A$240,000) Gr3 Winter Derby (10 furlongs) at Lingfield Park in Surrey, reported thoroughbredinternet.com. Joint-favourite Gentleman's Deal (ridden by Paul Mulrennan for trainer Mick Easterby) scored by a neck from last year's runner-up Grand Passion (Grand Lodge-Lovers' Parlour, by Beldale Flutter) with a further neck to Illustrious Blue (Dansili-Gipsy Moth, by Efisio). Easterby declared after the victory: "It's unbelievable! What a horse he is: he covered 40 mares last year (the 1st foals were born last week) & he's got 50 mares waiting for him. He is very fertile & will be covering mares until about July time. I will probably bring him back next year & race him as he is such a great horse." Last month Gentleman's Deal also won the Listed Ladybird Stakes (8 furongs on dirt) at Kempton.
