Monday, 26th March 2007

In the US, Darley shuttler Elusive Quality (Gone West-Touch Of Greatness, by Hero's Honor) added a group success when 5YO mare Maryfield (Elusive Quality-Sly Maid, by Desert Wine) "overcame a slow start with an explosive stretch run" to score a 2.25-lengths victory in the US$158,000 Gr2 Distaff Breeders' Cup Handicap (6 furlongs) for fillies & mares at Aqueduct in New York, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Canadian-bred Maryfield (ridden by Jorge Chavez for trainer Doug O'Neill) defeated front-running Candy Box (Running Stag-Miners Mirage, by Mining) & Gr2-winner Oprah Winney (Royal Academy-Mere Presence, by Woodman). Maryfield took her record to 7 wins (also including 2006's Listed Very Subtle Handicap over 6 furlongs at Churchill Downs & Listed Flower Girl Handicap over 6.5 furlongs at Santa Anita, plus runner-ups in both the Gr2 Gleam Invitational Handicap at Hollywood Park & Canada's Gr3 Seaway Stakes at Woodbine) from 24 starts for US$550,423 earnings.
