Pistols Wins Baillieu Handicap

Former Arrowfield Stud & now Coolmore shuttler Dehere (Deputy Minister-Sister Dot, by Secretariat) added a added a juvenile black-type success (& 54th individual stakes-winner) when favoured Woodlands Stud colt Pistols (Dehere-Duelling Girl, by Dayjur) prevailed in a 3-way photo-finish to yesterday's $70,000 Listed Baillieu Handicap (1400m) for 2YOs at Warwick Farm. Despite carrying top-weight (58kgs) & starting from the extreme outside barrier (16), Pistols (ridden by Darren Beadman for trainer John Hawkes) scored by a long-head from fellow colt & stable-mate Switchblade (Fusaichi Pegasus-Dane Ripper, by Danehill) with a further head to the gelding Cigar Royale (Beautiful Crown-Royal Magenta, by Royal Academy). Pistols (a $1.1 million yearling consigned by Bellerive Stud at the 2006 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) now has 2 wins & 2 placings (including last start's Gr3 Skyline Stakes over 1200m at Randwick on March 10) from 4 races for $73,150 prize-money; he is a half-brother to stakes-winning sprinter & Swettenham Stud sire Keep The Faith. Meanwhile Bellerive Stud has catalogued a yearling full-brother to Pistols at next month's Inglis Easter Sale.
