Trainers Call For Single Body Governing Aust Racing

Tuesday, 27th March 2007

Meanwhile Australian Trainers' Association chief executive John Alducci "called on racing to remodel itself on sports such as football, cricket, soccer & tennis, saying its current structure is obsolete," reported thoroughbredinternet.com. Alducci (speaking ahead of a review of the Victorian industry expected to be released in April) said to thrive in a modern environment, racing needed a "streamlined, single structure of governance" & a unified voice to compete against other forms of leisure, entertainment, gaming & wagering. He said the ATA wanted racing run by a single body "with no vested interest & with the power to manage & distribute finances & structure the racing calendar"; such a body "should also prepare & maintain all racetracks, oversee the industry's integrity & promote & market the sport".
