In Dubai, Australia's challenger in this weekend's Gr1 Dubai Duty Free (1777m), the Mick Price-trained 4YO gelding Pompeii Ruler (Genuine-West With Night, by Pompeii Court) worked on the turf at Nad Al Sheba on Monday night under floodlights & "put in a solid workout over 1200m, looking extremely well as he went about his business," according to the official report from the Dubai Racing Club. Pompeii Ruler "was timed over the 1200m in 1min 18.21sec, with the last 200 in 22.42sec, and Price seemed happy with his horse as he made his way back to the barn". Price summed up: "He's looking well & worked well."  he'll come on for that from Monday to Saturday - he should go well on the day," he said. Pompeii Ruler (passed-in for just $9,000 as a yearling at the 2004 Inglis Autumn Sale in Melbourne) won the Gr1 Australian Cup over 2000m at his last start & overall boasts 7 wins & 3 placings from 12 starts for $1,575,900 earnings.
