Florida OBSC 2YOs Day-1: US$400k Malibu Moon Filly

Thursday, 29th March 2007

California-based trainer Brian Koriner (acting on behalf of Shirley McPherson & Pete Parella's Legacy Ranch) paid the Day-1 top price of US$400,000 for a Malibu Moon filly (out of Royal Academy mare Silent Academy) during the opening session at the 2-day Ocala Breeders' Sales Co March Sale of Selected 2YOs-In-Training in Ocala in Florida. The filly (who worked 2 furlongs in 21.6sec during the pre-sale breeze-ups) was consigned by Tony Bowling & Bobby Dodd as agents & Koriner told thoroughbredtimes.com: "With all the hype about her, I figured that would be the price range. She's one of the biggest fillies in the sale & we'll have to wait on her, but she looks like she'll want a route of ground." Bowling & Dodd purchased the filly for US$50,000 at the 2006 Keeneland September yearling sale & Bowling commented: "That price was a little stronger than I thought originally. There were a lot of big money people who vetted her."
