Multiple Gr1 Sire Roi Normand Dies In Brazil
In Brazil, Roi Normand (sire of US Eclipse Award winner Riboletta) died aged 24, reported bloodhorse.com. On the track, Kentucky-bred Roi Normand (Exclusive Native-Luth de Saron, by Luthier) was stakes-placed in France before returning to the US & winning the 1988 Gr1 Sunset Handicap; overall he notched 5 wins from 17 starts. He subsequently stood at Haras Santa Ana do Rio Grande in Brazil & sired a number of Brazilian Gr1-winners, including star daughter Riboletta who won the Gr1 Grande Premio Diana (Brazilian Oaks) prior to her arrival in the US where she was named 2000 Champion Older Female after winning 5 Gr1 stakes (including the Beldame Stakes & Santa Margarita Invitational Handicap). Another of Roi Normand's Brazilian Gr1-winners Redattore added 7 US graded-stakes victories in California (including the Gr1 Shoemaker Breeders' Cup Mile Stakes & Gr1 Eddie Read Handicap). And Roi Normand's Brazilian champion Ay Caramba subsequently won the 2005 US Gr3 Oceanport Stakes at Monmouth Park.
