Monday, 2nd April 2007

In Singapore, Vinery Stud stallion Success Express (Hold Your Peace-Au Printemps, by Dancing Champ) gained a double boost when star Australian-bred 4YO gelding Why Be (Success Express-Charybdis, by Royal Academy) collected the Horse-Of-The-Year award on Saturday night & then added his 18 victory in yesterday's S$200,000 (A$160,000) Gr3 Fischer Stakes (1200m) at Kranji. Front-running Why Be (ridden by Barend Vorster for expatriate Kiwi trainer Laurie Laxon) scored by 2-lengths from expatriate Australian trainer Don Baertschiger's pair Capablanca & Always Fast (Scenic-Speech Of Praise, by Cheraw). Overall Why Be (originally a $20,000 weanling at the 2003 Inglis Select Sale in Sydney & then resold for NZ$26,000 as a yearling at the 2004 NZB Select Sale at Karaka) now boasts 18 wins & 3 placings from 22 starts.
